Cleaning Toys

Hudson was sick today, so Grace and Gannon went home before lunch. :( Since one of the kids was sick, I cleaned toys. I thought I'd show you my process...

Before I started daycare, I didn't really think about cleaning toys. I'd really only clean things if they needed it. Now that the toys are getting much more use and being handled by more little hands, they are cleaned and sanitized much more often. I shoot for about every 2-3 weeks...more or less often depending on the amount of time we spend playing outdoors and if anyone is sick.

I fill my bathtub with about 20 gallons of water and add bleach. To sanitize toys you add 3/4 cup of bleach for every gallon of water. The instructions say to soak for 5 minutes. I soak them for 5 minutes, then mix them up a bit since a lot of the toys float, and soak for another 5 minutes. You drain the bleach water and fill the tub with water again to rinse them.

After the water drains out, I shake off each toy and look for any damage or loose parts. I put them all in a large laundry basket to dry.

While the toys are out of the bins, I clean all the bins with Clorox wipes and vacuum underneath the stands.

Obviously, some toys can't be submerged in water. I clean books, electronic toys, etc. by hand. Dolls and soft toys go through the washer and dryer. For dolls with plastic faces, I put them inside a pair of footy pajamas or a pillowcase so their faces aren't marked up. Some toys are also able to go in the dishwasher.

Well, not the most exciting post, but thought you might like to know...

1st Day of Fall

HAPPY FALL!!

Tuesday was the first day of fall. While the kids napped, I got out some of my stamps and made one of these pages for each of them.

I went through the crayon bucket and picked out a bunch of fall colors. Who knew Crayola made so many different shades of brown??

We talked about the leaves changing colors and falling to the ground.

Hudson's masterpiece

Grace's beautiful finished project

Delaney enjoyed watching the other kids color while having a snack.

Today's Lunch

Today, we had homemade mac-n-cheese, mandarin oranges, and peas and carrots. Knowing the eating habits of the kids, I could tell you which plate belonged to which child. Can you guess?

(answers at the bottom of today's posts)

Dance Party!!

I often play music from our digital cable for the kids while they're playing toys. Today, they started a dance party. Grace, Gannon and Hudson laughed, danced and twirled around the living room. Such a fun morning!!

Twin Girls

Last week, Gannon came in a shirt that Hudson has. Today, Grace came in a shirt that Delaney has. Either the moms have great taste, or Minot needs more places to shop! Grace thought it was neat to match Delaney. She couldn't stop smiling and laughing! What sweeties!!

Lunch Plates

Left to Right

Gannon (he usually leaves his vegetables)
Hudson (the other kids hardly ever leave fruit on their plates)
Grace (not picky, usually eats most everything)

How'd you do?

MMMmmmm, Spaghetti

Boy, do these kiddos love spaghetti!! I had to take a few pictures this day, because the kids were so funny with their messy, smiling faces!

Delaney fell asleep during lunch this day. Hard to imagine with all the giggling spaghetti eaters in the kitchen!

Quite the crew! :)

Twins for a day

Gannon came one morning wearing this t-shirt. As soon as Hudson saw him, he said, "I need to wear my golfball shirt!" Thank goodness it was clean. Cute blonde boys in matching shirts!

Ladybugs!

The kids discover ladybugs almost every time we play in the backyard. Each time they find one, it's as exciting as the first time. They bring me to see it, gather around and keep pointing to it. It's very cute!

There it is...do you see it?

This one got away safely. Some of them are pointed to death...

After one flies away, the kids keep looking for them. Gannon is usually the most focused on finding another one.
I hope small things like ladybugs continue to fascinate the kids for years to come. It's easy to overlook little things. I'm glad the kids appreciate and enjoy them!

Welcome, Gannon!

Gannon joined us in August 2009. Hudson loves having another boy to play with. :) He was beginning to feel outnumbered! Gannon's baby brother or sister will be joining us in about 6 months...we're excited to meet him or her!

Let the Blogging Begin!

Welcome to our daycare blog! I will try to do my best to keep with posting...but, please remember that some days nap time is short! I love my days with the kids and am trying to come up with new ways to keep busy! Especially now that it seems winter is sneeking up on us once again. :( We try to stick to a daily routine, but the children and weather can change the plans at any minute. The kids have been really interested in art projects lately...coloring, stickers, etc. I am yet to bring out the paint I have purchased. Not quite that daring yet!!
